The New York State DEC of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is pleased to announce that $500,000 is available from the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) to qualifying governmental entities or not-for-profit (NFP) organizations to implement Southern Pine Beetle Community Recovery (SPBCR) projects in Nassau and/or Suffolk County of New York State in areas affected by southern pine beetle. Projects must be implemented as discussed in the 2017 Southern Pine Beetle Community Recovery Grants Request For Applications (RFA).
Safeguarding of the Central Long Island Pine Barrens is vital for water quality protection, wildlife habitat, and the protection of endangered species. The conservation of this landscape has also proven human health benefits by providing recreational opportunities and a connection with nature.
All applications must be developed and submitted in the NYS Grants Gateway by 2:00 PM on November 9, 2017. Applicants may request a minimum grant amount of $25,000, up to a maximum grant amount of $75,000. A match amount of twenty-five percent (25%) of the requested grant amount is required. Eligible sources of matching funds must be provided from non state or federal funding sources.
