The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) administers MWRR funding to local government entities for waste reduction and recycling projects. The goal of this MWRR-RC sub-program is to assist municipalities to expand or improve local waste reduction and recycling. Eligible projects include costs for recycling coordination, education, planning and promotion for recycling and waste reduction in order to increase public awareness of and participation in local recycling programs.
Applications will be accepted by DEC during the months of August, September and October of each year for the following calendar year. A municipality may submit only one application for state assistance for calendar year 2020 for all eligible municipal waste reduction and recycling education, promotion, planning and coordination costs expected to be incurred during January - December 2020. All complete applications received by the DEC during August - October will be considered to have been received simultaneously. Applications will be reviewed by the DEC and may be approved, disapproved or modified, or combined with applications from municipalities in overlapping jurisdictions.
